Jason Lee’s first-half strike ensured CD Almuñécar City took the bragging rights on derby day with a 1-0 victory over CD Juventud Sexitana.
The home side took an early lead in the game when Lee’s strike found the bottom corner of the net.
CDAC closed out the first-half on the front foot and went close to scoring a second goal through Tobias Karlsen and Erick Mulu.
Luismi’s effort fired off the crossbar just before the hour mark and the hosts went on to see the game through for their first three points of the new season.
Almuñécar began the season with a hard-fought point away to Cúllar Vega on the opening day of the season. Head coach Juan Carlos Añón made two changes to the team that drew last Sunday.
Both sides worked their way into the game in the early stages, but it was CDAC that created the first chance and they broke the deadlock in the 13th minute.
Full-back Lee broke well down the right wing, played a neat one-two with Mulu and broke into the box. The Sexitana defender got to the ball first, but the tackle rebounded off the American defender and into the bottom corner of the net.
The visitors had a couple of chances themselves around the half-hour mark, the first of which was held onto by Gabriel Mendoza in the CDAC goal.
Nevertheless, it was the home side that went on to close out the first-half on the front foot. Juan Carlos’ side went close twice in quick succession.
Lee, who was proving to be a thorn in Sexitana’s side down the right wing, flicked the ball over the full-back and into the path of Karlsen, who fired low and drew a good save from the goalkeeper.
Just under a minute later, Mulu intercepted a stray pass on the halfway line, drove forward before firing over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.
There were plenty of positives to take into the second-half and CDAC went within inches of scoring a second goal, but the crossbar came to Sexitana’s rescue.
Luismi’s dangerous in-swinging corner was punched back out to the full-back, who put the ball through the defender’s legs before sending a shot against the bar in the 57th minute.
CDAC controlled the second-half in large parts and looked to close out the game on the ascendancy. A couple of chances came their way, with Juanlu going close in stoppage time, but Lee’s goal in the first-half was enough to secure all three points.
