Last night CDAC travelled to Malaga to take on U.D. Algorrobo. It was the first time this preseason that the lads have taken on a team from their own level, which was a great test and a good indicator of what they can expect going forward this season.
The game got off to a quick start with Alex Hastings heading a George Jermy corner against the crossbar within the first minute. CD Almunecar City dominated possession in the early stages, creating a number of chances. However against the run of play Algorrobo took the lead.
There was almost an instant response, as the Algorrobo crossbar was rattled again. This time by a Sean Morris free kick. It wasn’t until the 40th minute that CDAC finally made their breakthrough, when Sean Morris crossed for Aaron Redford who selflessly laid the ball off to Carlton Westerdale to tap home.
The second half was a much quieter affair, following the action packed first half. Then, with 5 minutes left on the clock, CDAC won a penalty. Welshman Kyle Copp stepped to cooly slot home past the keeper to give CDAC a much deserved 2-1 victory.
A good test and encouraging performance all round for CD Almunecar City against the sort of opposition they can expect to face in the coming season.
