Goals from Rooks and Clarke helped CD Almuñecar City start off their pre-season campaign with a 2-2 draw with Guadix CF.
The hosts kicked off the play and dominated the early stages of the game with a succession of attacks threatening Sam Richau’s goal.
Almuñecar soon found their rhythm though, as Sean Morris and George Jermy controlled the ball from midfield encouraging a number of dangerous attacks.
Boubacar Diallo came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 28th minute, after his shot was stopped by Guadix’s ‘keeper from a Kasper Mikkelsen cutback.
Liam Bickett and Kasper Mikkelsen combined well down the left wing to attempt to break the deadlock; a cross into the box found Flavio Cerone who’s shot was deflected before being collected by the ‘keeper.
Bickett was involved once again just a few minutes later as he found himself in space in the box, but could only find the post with his carefully placed shot.
George Jermy made eight changes during the half-time interval, which proved to make an instant impact; Brandon Rooks opening the scoring with a goal from outside the eighteen-yard-box just after the interval.
Almuñecar’s joy was short lived, though, as a misplaced pass from Sam Richau allowed Guadix an opportunity on goal which they capitalised on at the second time of asking.
Jay Clarke offered a number of runs in behind from upfront, only just missing out on goal a number of times with good saves from the Guadix stopper.
In the 84th minute, Almuñecar took the lead with a cross into the box successfully converted by new recruit Jay Clarke, who headed the ball into the bottom right corner.
It didn’t take long for Guadix to reply; an attempt from outside the box looping over Sam Richau’s head in the 88th minute put them back into the game.
The game drew to a close, with the scores level after ninety minutes resulting in a draw.
