CD Almuñecar City Held To A Goalless Draw Against CD Colomera 3.0

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

CD Almuñecar City were held to a goalless draw against CD Colomera 3.0 in a frustrating afternoon of football at Ciudad Deportiva Armilla on Sunday 8th December.

Head Coach George Jermy named three changes to the starting eleven with Barcia, Jimenez and Mukweva all coming into the team.

The hosts began life at their temporary home positively, dominating possession during the opening ten minutes of play. Johan Dedoncker started the game brightly on the left hand side and almost opened the scoring in the tenth minute with a shot from eighteen yards out forcing the 'keeper into a good low save.

Dedoncker continued to apply the pressure just minutes after, the Belgian winger beating his man and floating a cross into the box finding an unmarked Diallo who unfortunately mistimed his header.

CD Almuñecar City came close to opening the scoring in the 35th minute; Diallo's twenty five yard free kick causing problems for the 'keeper who spilled the initial attempt. Diego Sanchez was first to the rebound and appeared to be in the perfect position to score before the Mexican defender lost his footing at the crucial moment.

Two changes were made during the interval with Nicky Guyo and George Jermy entering the field with the hosts looking to assert their dominance once more.

Jermy made an instant impact controlling the play in midfield, his through ball found Max Mikkola in the box who fired towards goal but the effort was matched by the 'keeper from point blank range.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure and at the hour mark Sean Morris was inches away from finding the back of the net after his free kick was acrobatically saved by the 'keeper.

However, with CD Almuñecar City throwing men forward in the attacking half, there was a shortage of numbers at the back which CD Colomera almost capitalised on. One on one with the 'keeper, the striker placed his effort into the bottom left corner but Artimio saved low to keep the scores level.

Diego Sanchez was inches away from breaking the deadlock twice in a minute with his head; the first attempt cleared off the line by the 'keeper and the second hitting the post in a flurry of CD Almuñecar City attacks.

However, the CD Colomera defence was resolute and managed to withhold the relentless Almuñecar attack; the visitors evidently ecstatic with a point when the referee blew the full time whistle.

The result marked a missed opportunity for CD Almuñecar City with league rivals Salar CF dropping points over the weekend.

CD Almuñecar City ended Match Day Thirteen in third place on 27 points, four points behind joint leaders Churriana De La Vega and Salar CF with two games to go before the Winter break.

Starting XI: Barcia, Matuka, Sanchez, Hastings, Jimenez, Bickett, Mukweva, Dedoncker, Morris, Diallo, Mikkola.
