CD Almuñecar City Fight For Vital Three Points

CD Almuñecar City secured a hard fought three points on the road putting three goals past Águilas de Zujaira to move up to third in the league table.

The Almuñecar team started positively creating a number of chances in the opening ten minutes; Aurele Beya and Sean Morris linked up well in the midfield before finding Mikkelsen out wide in space but the Danish attacker couldn't find Nicky Guyo in the box.

Ivan Parra almost added to his goal tally in the twentieth minute, a Sean Morris free kick found the Spanish defender in acres of space but he could only head wide from six yards.

The visitors deservedly opened the scoring just before the half hour mark; Brandon Gomez fired a long ball towards Nicky Guyo who was strong to hold off and his man and drive forward. The Zimbabwean forward did well to cut inside and fire a ball into the six yard box which ricocheted off a defender and into the net.

Aurele Beya almost doubled the Almuñecar lead just before half time; but the 6'4" midfielder mistimed his shot from eighteen yards under pressure from the defenders.

The hosts came out fighting in the second half and put themselves level in the 53rd minute; catching Almuñecar on the break and firing past a helpless Brandon Gomez.

Águilas de Zujaira almost turned the game on it's head just after the hour mark; a well worked free kick routine resulted in a shooting opportunity for an attacker who struck the post with a powerful attempt.

However, CD Almuñecar City quickly got back into their groove and struck back just moments later; winning a penalty which was calmly converted by captain Sean Morris low to the keeper's right hand side.

The game became scrappy with the hosts clearly frustrated, resulting in a number of unsportsmanlike incidents throughout the second half.

Almuñecar finished the game off in the 79th minute, Max Mikkola sending through Nicky Guyo towards goal; the forward beating his man for pace and brilliantly finishing past the 'keeper.

The visitors almost scored a fourth in the closing moments of the game; young Zimbabwean midfielder Kundai Mukweva striking the post with a forty yard shot.
